Witty

Witty is a sweet 8-year-old girl from Masaka. She lost her father when she was still very young.

After her father died, her mother left to start another family. With other children to care for now, her mother is unable to pay for Witty. Little Witty was left with her grandmother in Masaka — but her grandmother is old, not working, and has no income at all.

Because of this, Witty's school life has been on and off. One term she is in class; the next she is sent home because there is no money for school fees, books, or a uniform. She sits at home, watching other children go to school while she stays behind to help her grandmother.

She loves school so much. She is bright and eager to learn — but poverty keeps pushing her out of the classroom.
