Kirabo Poliny & Kitungo Melony
At just eight years old, Kirabo Poliny carries a weight no child should have to bear. While most girls her age are focused on school and play, Kirabo's daily reality is anchored in survival. Her most important job is protecting her five-year-old sister, Kitungo Melony.
The sisters live with their mother, whose ongoing illness leaves her too weak to work or provide stability. Without a steady income or a permanent roof over their heads, the family is constantly on the move—searching for temporary shelter and wondering where their next meal will come from. Kirabo often has to step into the role of caretaker for both her ailing mother and her little sister, navigating a world that has offered them very little security.
Yet, despite the fear and uncertainty, the bond between Kirabo and Kitungo remains unbroken. They are each other's safe place.
